Circle of Friends
You may have heard about our wonderful Chhandayan Center for Indian Music in midtown Manhattan, situated between Grand Central Station and Times Square. Here we are offering classes on different types of Indian music and dance throughout the week and throughout the year. These classes are taught by some of the most accomplished musicians living in the vicinity of New York City. Our regular classes are periodically supplemented by visiting faculty from India.
One of the key attractions to the Chhandayan Center is our very successful Chhandayan Saturday Concert Series, held almost every Saturday throughout the year. Our annual All-Night Concert held every year on the second Saturday of May featuring some of the greatest contemporary maestros of Indian classical music has grown to be a global event over the years attended by over 800 people coming from different continents.
Beyond our activities in New York we also run successful chapters in New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania and abroad in Toronto, Canada and Afghanistan. In all of our locations in the United States we offer regular classes and concerts. In Toronto we are currently offering only the annual All-night concert held in the heart of the city in every Fall. In Afghanistan we are working together with the ministries of education, higher education and culture helping them to revive their musical heritage.
In order to continue with our services, we earnestly solicit your support. Chhandayan Center is a gift we have earned through several years of genuine hard work, vision and integrity. Its existence and continuity of services toward the benefit of the society are not to be taken for granted. We have very little support from the government. Hence it is largely dependent on the society. We consider you not only one of the finest members of the society, but also as one of the very few who has the ability to properly evaluate the significance of such a center of Indian music in the heart of New York city, the center of the earth.
We have been a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) and charitable organization since the inception. We have a highly efficient administration, always welcoming new ideas and suggestions. We have a Friends of Chhandayan committee, expanding and refining our program capacities, and preparing for reaching out to the widest possible audience.
We are very pleased to invite you to join the committee in any capacity that befits your status and interest. It will be an honor for us to have you on board. Please see our Mission and Vision Statements as well as the list of activities, in which we engage to fulfill our mission and goals.
We hope you accept our invitation. Your contribution will be accounted in the history of Indian music in North America and rest of the world.
