Pdt. Samir Chatterjee

Samir Chatterjee is a virtuoso Tabla player of India. He travels widely across the world throughout the year performing in numerous festivals as a soloist or with other outstanding musicians from both Indian and western musical traditions. Samir performed at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo, Norway on December 10th, 2007. His compositions are widely acclaimed as well as his writings.

Pdt. Ramesh Mishra

A glaring example of total dedication, depth and maturity, Pandit Ramesh Misra is a phenomenon in the field of Indian classical music.Mastering over one of the most difficult and unique string instruments 'Sarengi', Ramesh Misra is acclaimed as an outstanding artist of India. Ramesh started his initial intensive training at a very tender age from his father Pt. Ramnath Misra and acquired further knowledge and training from some of the finest musicians of Beneras Gharana such as Pt. Hanuman Prasad Mishra and Pt. Gopal Mishra.

Smt. Sanghamitra Chatterjee

Sanghamitra Chatterjee is one of the leading vocalists of India in the fields of light and light classical music. Gifted with a sweet and melodious voice Sanghamitra has chosen light music as her domain; this includes Adhunik (Bengali modern song), Rabindrasangeet(songs of Tagore), Nazrulgeet (songs of Nazrul), songs of Atul Prasad Sen, folk songs, Hindi Bhajans, film songs, Geet, Ghazals, etc.. She had her lessons in classical music from Pdt. Usharanjan Mukherjee and Sri Dashu Mukherjee.

Pdt. Steve Gorn

Steve Gorn has performed Indian classical music and new American music on the bansuri bamboo flute and soprano saxophone in concerts and festivals throughout the world. A disciple of the late bansuri master, Sri Gour Goswami of Calcutta, and currently a student of Pandit Raghunath Seth of Mumbai, he has been praised by critics and leading Indian musicians as one of the few westerners recognized to have captured the subtlety and beauty of Indian music.

Smt. Mitali Banerjee Bhawmik

Mitali Banerjee Bhawmik, an artiste of Hindustani Classical vocal music, was born in Nogaon, Assan, where she started her initial lessons in music at a very early age from Sri Ajit Dutta. Later she had the privilege of receiving extensive training in the different styles of Hindustani Classical vocal music from Sri Biren Phukan in Guahati, Assam. For further training, Mitali came to Calcutta in 1983 where she initially received lessons from Srimati Meera Banerjee, the noted vocalist. Since 1984 Mitali is under the tutelage of Padmabhushan Pandit V. G. Jog the famous violin maestro.

K.V. Mahabala

K.V. Mahabala had an aptitude for music since childhood. After experimenting with singing and Mandolin playing, he found his true love for classical North Indian music in Sitar. After having initial education of music with his first teacher, Sri Yoga Narasimha in Mysore, K.V. Mahabala decided to seek further musical career in New Delhi, Capital City of India. There he joined Gandharva Maha Vidhyalaya - an Institution responsible for popular promotion of music in the Indian Society. There he came across great masters of music, which enriched his appreciation.

Dibyarka Chatterjee

Dibyarka Chatterjee is a young and promising Tabla player from the Farrukhabad Gharana. His natural inclination towards music became evident shortly after his birth, and at the age of five he was initiated by his father Pandit Samir Chatterjee, a world-renowned Tabla maestro. Since then he has been going through the rigorous discipline of lessons and practice according to the ancient guru-shishya parampara (master-disciple tradition).

Maya Misra
Maya Misra is a reputed Kathak dancer and teacher. She was born and educated in dance in Kolkata under great gurus. She also started her career as a performer and teacher in Calcutta. We feel honored that she has kindly ageed to join Chhandayan faculty as our first dance teacher.

Samarth Nagarkar

Samarth Nagarkar is a Hindustani classical vocalist. A disciple of Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar and Pt. Dinkar Kaikini, his repertoire includes the gharana gayakis of Gwalior, Agra as well as Jaipur. He is a former scholar of the ITC Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata and former head of the K K Kapoor Sangeet Research Academy, Lucknow. He has performed and continues to performs regularly at most popular music conferences and venues in India and the USA.
